Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald: Sometimes Madness is Wisdom

A compulsively readable account of the tumultuous lives of jazz-age literary icons Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda. this thought-provoking book tells the story of Zelda Sayre, a talented and beautiful Southern belle who captured the heart of one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century - F. Scott Fitzgerald. For a short time they symbolised the excess and flamboyance of the jazz-age - they were the \'9291it\'9291 couple - partying hard, living fast, travelling widely and drinking far too much. they rode the New York roller coaster, then jaunted over to Paris and the French Riviera, then back to Hollywood, always spending more than they were earning and living a step away from catastrophe. ten years into the marriage things began to crumble - Zelda had the first of many breakdowns, F. Scott had the first of many affairs, and at the age of 44 he died of a heart attack, soon to be followed by Zelda who perished in a hospital fire in 1948. theirs is a story of recklessness and tragedy, of great art and creative brilliance, of an age when anything went but at considerable cost. It is a story of the peaks of existence and experience but also of the dramatic falls and the hard lessons one must learn.
